What Is iValidator?
iValidator is a framework for XML-based test automation of complex test scenarios. iValidator is completely written in Java.
The framework is available under an open source licence.
Why Do You Need iValidator?
Developers are more and more confronted with growing software complexity
and a strong movement towards increased accountability. Tools like JUnit are
well established in professional software development. iValidator is designed
to run integration tests with large test scenarios for J2EE based applications.
Such mission critical software usually consists of many interacting components and subsystems. To test the integration of
these subsystems it is necessary to implement extensive test scenarios. The sensible approach is to use a descriptive process to
assemble small self-contained test units into complex scenarios.
iValidator is equally suitable for black box and white box tests.
Especially server applications can be tested at any desired level of complexity.
Although applicable iValidator is not designed for unit and gui tests.
What Advantages Does iValidator Have?
The central feature is the flexible descriptive control of complex test scenarios.
XML is the choice language to describe data structures. Using XML you can also describe test cases, combine them into
test suites and control the flow of the test suites.
The iValidator framework is a tool for developers, it requires Java and XML knowledge.
The more complex the test cases and test scenarios grow, the more efficient it is to rely on the iValidator framework for your test automation.
Because of the descriptive XML syntax and the flexible hierachical composition of the test scenarios even extensive and complex programs and systems can be tested efficiently.
Why Is iValidator Open Source?
Developing software, then giving it away for free, where's the use? How can something be good (or even better) if it's for free?
The world wide Open Source community is mainly developing for their own benefit. Especially tools and middleware have achieved
a high level of sophistication and often even overtake their commercial counterparts. This is by no means remarkable because:
-
Supplier and user are identical, the development is for the real demand.
-
The open source allows for constructive review. Users do not have to rely on suppliers support but can help themselves.
Newsgroup and discussion forums present the ideal environment for this.
-
The terms of Open Source licences allow many uses that are prohibited for proprietary software.
InfoDesign offers competent professional support concerning all aspects of the implementation of test automation based on the iValidator framework.
